In order to offer a memorable experience for trick-or-treaters, here are some ideas to implement this October 31st:
- Print your copy of the Treat Accessibly sign and post it on your lawn at least one week before Halloween. You can get one at the Library, or print your own in French and/or English.
- Light the way to your entrance and clear any obstacles
- Park your vehicle in the garage or on the street for easy access
- Offer treats in your driveway
- Avoid using strobe lights or scary music
- Vary your treat offering: give non-candy surprises like stickers, pencils, etc. Some young trick-or-treaters may have food allergies or intolerances. If you offer non-candy items, you can signal this to families using a teal pumpkin placed at the entrance!
- Explain what you give to trick-or-treaters; some may not able to see what they are receiving
This Halloween, do your part to ensure that all children are able to experience the thrill of trick or treating with their friends and create an accessible environment for all.
