Update on the situation after the heavy rainfall

Safety and Prevention August 19, 2024

Update: August 16 at 10:30 a.m.:

Collection of bulky items and objects damaged by water infiltration and sewer backup

Due to the large volume of materials deposited at the curb, the bulky items collection is still ongoing, with trucks working on the Sherwood neighbourhood and the area to the north west of St-Charles Blvd. Once this first pass has been completed, the trucks will begin a second pass.

Please note that household hazardous waste, electronics, appliances containing halocarbons (such as refrigerators, freezers, humidifiers, etc.) and tires are not accepted. Whenever possible, wrap materials in plastic bags in order to speed up the collection process.

Drop-off site

If you do not want to wait for the bulky items collection, and want to get rid of some damaged goods in the meantime, you can bring them to the Public Works drop-off site during regular hours, see schedule and acceped materials.

Until further notice, visits will not count towards the 5 free accesses per year.

Garbage and recycling collection

In addition to the ongoing bulky items collection, the garbage and recycling collections will be taking place as planned on Thursday.

Update: August 16 at 10:30 a.m.:

Bulky items collection

We would like to remind you that the collection of bulky items, including flood-damaged materials, continues today and tomorrow. It will be extended next week in collaboration with our contractors, depending on progress in the north and south sectors. It is essential to use plastic bags for materials that can fit into them.

Update: August 14 at 5 p.m.:

Bulky items collection continues until Saturday, August 17

Due to the large volume of materials deposited at the curb, bulky items collection will continue until Saturday. We remind you that it is mandatory to wrap materials in plastic bags whenever possible. This will speed up the collection process.

Please note that household hazardous waste, electronics, appliances containing halocarbons (such as refrigerators, freezers, humidifiers, etc.) and tires are not accepted.

Bulky items collection following the heavy rainfall of August 9

We understand that, following the record amount of rain that fell on Friday, August 9, many homes were flooded, and with that came the need to throw away damaged items and materials in large quantities. If you have soiled items that were affected by the flood and that you wish to get rid of, we invite you to place it by the curb, including garbage bags.

The bulky items collections for the month of August have been extended to cover the entire territory of the City. You can put your materials out at the curb right away, with the bulky items collections taking place for both the north and south sectors on:

  • Wednesday, August 14
  • Wednesday, August 28

Exceptionally, the usual restrictions on which kind of materials, as well as the dimensions of the materials, have been lifted.

Damages and insurance

If your home has suffered damage, we invite you to first contact your insurance company, who will manage your claim with you and contact the City, if necessary.

If you still wish to file a claim with the City, please complete the form available here within 15 days of the incident. Please note, however, that the City does not assume responsibility for damage management or repairs.
